"I don't ask you what is your race, your nationality or your religion, but what is your pain." Louis Pasteur
Hospital without frontier (H.S.F.) was created In 1992 by the Rotary club Namur-Confluent Belgium. HSF counts about fifty members. The organization is entirely composed of voluntary specialists and rotarians. This structure enables H.S.F. devoting 100% of its financial means to humanitarian actions.
HSF objectives
HSFaims at rehabilitating and supplying equipment to the poorest hospitals and health care centers. The projects undertaken by HSF concern emergency aid as well as long term development. HSF has a modest but significant position within the group of the humanitarian organizations.
HSF interventions
HSF interventions consist mainly in supplying medical, surgical and paramedical equipment. In certain cases, the interventions go much further by fully rehabilitating health care centers or by organizing and financing the transport of medical teams in emergency operations. Once the equipment and the products are bought or collected, they are immediately packed and stored in one of the three storage centers kindly placed at the disposal of HSF. Therefore, depending on the necessity and the emergency, a truck can start at any moment within a 24 hours delay.
While no HSF person accompaniies the transporter, the Rotary clubs of the country of destination take the responsability for the follow-up and the distribution of the equipment. HSF never sends its equipment at random : there is allways at least one person who can guatantee the free distribution to the final recipient.
HSF takes part in the emergency service of the Rotary International. Rotary International counts 1.200.000 members in the world. These members are the driving-force of HSF. The action of HSF owes a lot to their devotedness and to the strength of this worldwide network.
HSF resources
HSF collects gifts and in-kind grants: medical, surgical and paramedical equipment, mainly coming from large firms, like pharmaceutical companies, laboratories and hospitals. For the moment, the equipment comes from Belgium and the Grand-Duchy of Luxemburg, but HSF welcomes every proposal coming from other countries. The financial resources of HSF are coming from grants. These are being given by Rotary's members, by Rotary International, partly trough the "matching grants" mechanism. The Rotary club "Namur confluent", but also other clubs, are regularly underrtaking actions to support HSF.
Grants from private individuals, paid at the Belgian bank account number 000-0000036-36, constitute also an important participation in the purchase of medical products and hospital equipment.
HSF is member of the "Association pour une Ethique dans les Récoltes de Fonds : A.E.R.F." National number :44 90 50 612
